The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s 2022 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign is a bit nearer to reaching its fundraising aim of $8.2 million after receiving a uncommon gold coin donation.
Tuesday evening, the nameless donor, dropped the coin right into a purple kettle on the Kroger retailer situated on 9 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores.
In an electronic mail to 7 Action News, the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit mentioned the coin is a “rare, 1980 South African gold Krugerrand.”
The donation marks the tenth consecutive 12 months {that a} donor has deposited a Krugerrand right into a purple kettle in Macomb County.
According to Monex, the Krugerrand is valued at roughly $1,765.
All 2022 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign donations will assist to feed, dress and help folks in want.
