YONKERS, Westchester County (WABC) — A celeb chef is giving again this Thanksgiving to the neighborhood the place he grew up in Yonkers.
Peter X. Kelly, founding father of the Xaviar Restaurant Group and Xaviars X20 on the Hudson, teamed up with the Yonkers Municipal Housing Authority and Ruff Ryders to arrange and ship 350 plus gourmand Thanksgiving meals for public housing residents.
His employees has been working because the weekend getting ready roasted turkey, truffle mashed potatoes, chestnut and apple stuffing, string beans, cranberry sauce, and a slice of pumpkin bread.
The self-taught chef sees the vacation as a perfect time to offer again to the neighborhood that gave him his begin.
78-year-old Dorothy Peterson will spend Thanksgiving with out household Thursday which is why she was grateful to have firm. Kelly dropped off a home-cooked meal to Peterson.
“It means a lot, I don’t have to cook. I hate cooking, but I like to eat,” Peterson mentioned.
Kelly is considered one of 12 kids and spent a part of his childhood within the Schlobohm homes and so these meals are being distributed to a particular group: seniors dwelling in public housing all through Yonkers.
“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I get to feed people and make them happy. You don’t have to bring a gift,” Kelly mentioned.
This is the fourth 12 months Kelly and his group have ready such meals, a convention that went on by way of the pandemic and reveals no indicators of slowing down.
“I understand what it means to want a little more, particularly around the holidays. So I feel very fortunate to do that,” Kelly mentioned.
