It’s a battle royale for six GHz spectrum band, which affords 5G-like web speeds upto 10 Gbps. On one facet are international tech biggies akin to Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Cisco, Qualcomm, Intel and Netflix.
On the opposite – telcos, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. The tech giants need the 6 GHz band delicensed to spice up reasonably priced broadband connectivity throughout rural India through WiFi.
But telcos name it a foul thought, and as an alternative need the 6GHz band auctioned and used for 5G providers now, and 6G in future.
The ball is within the courtroom of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) which is weighing the professionals and cons. Kalyan Parbat reviews.
