It has been a troublesome week in Guadalajara up to now, and it received more durable for the event on Monday night time as Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia joined the checklist of participant withdrawals after struggling a freak accident in her lodge room.
The glass bathe door broke and triggered the Fifteenth-ranked 27-year-old to go to the hospital to get her arms bandaged.
“Last night, Sunday, at the hotel, when I got out of the shower and opened the shower, the door simply burst and I ended up cutting some parts of my body,” Haddad Maia wrote on Instagram. “I had to go to the hospital here in Guadalajara to get stitches (including on both hands) and unfortunately I won’t be able to play here in Mexico (a special place for us tennis players due to all the receptivity of the people and the efforts of the tournaments).
Other than that, apart from the scare, I’m fine. It could be something much more serious. I will need a few days now to heal the wounds so I can be back for the last part of the year; and continue fighting for my 2023 goals.”
Ninth-seeded Haddad Maia was as a consequence of face Danielle Collins. She was changed by American Lucky Loser Sachia Vickery. Vickery then superior when Collins pulled out as a consequence of damage 7-6(7) ret.
Fifth-seeded Belinda Bencic additionally pulled out with a abdomen virus, she was changed by American Elvina Kalieva.
