Legendary front-rower Sam Backo is about to endure a triple bypass surgical procedure after struggling a serious coronary heart assault earlier this 12 months.
The 62-year-old was recovering from surgical procedure on each his knees within the Cairns Base Hospital when he suffered a coronary heart assault.
Backo has since been stabilised and had three stints inserted into his coronary heart and can now journey to Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane for main surgical procedure on May 20.

The Raiders legend’s spouse Christabel Wareen-Backo arrange a GoFundMe web page in a bid to collect funds for use in the direction of his restoration.
“Due to the current situation Sam has had no alternatives but to forgo his current employment after using up all his leave entitlements and has been left unemployed,” she wrote.
“The personal care support required also limits my hours of employment.
“Sam’s challenges ahead requires long term medication, attend medical appointments, at least 3-6 months therapy/rehabilitation, recommended physiotherapy equipment, relevant family support if necessary for travel and accommodation.”

The Raiders launched a press release on Wednesday encouraging followers to contribute to the fund “should people wish to donate”.
’Slammin’ Sam Backo represented Queensland and Australia throughout his stellar profession, taking part in seven State of Origin matches and 6 Tests.
The prop performed 115 video games for the Raiders earlier than a two-year stint with the Brisbane Broncos, retiring in 1990.
He was named within the Indigenous Australian staff of the century and the Raiders’ All Indigenous staff.
In 2000, Backo was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to rugby league.
