Broncos veteran Corey Oates has a “clean break” in his jaw and Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater “is going to spend a bit of time on the sidelines” in keeping with Fox League’s Michael Ennis.
Oates charged at Drinkwater trying to attain a second-half strive earlier than the North Queensland gun’s shoulder linked together with his opponent’s jaw.
Oates didn’t floor the ball and immediately grabbed at his face, clearly in misery as Drinkwater was given his marching orders by referee Ashley Klein.

Fox League’s Corey Parker stated the veteran winger will probably be sidelined for “four to six weeks”.
“He has a clean break through the jaw, he is in the emergency department as we speak, having scans to determine what the diagnosis will be,”
“Whether there’s plates, whether there is surgery, but you would think Corey Oates will be out of this side for four to six weeks in a huge blow for the Broncos.
“I mean it is a high collision sport, Corey Oates is 6’3 and 110 kilograms trying to score a try, but on the other hand Drinkwater was trying to stop a try.
“The match review committee will certainly have a look at it.”
Speaking within the post-match press convention, each Kevin Walters and Adam Reynolds disagreed Klein made the proper resolution by sending Drinkwater to the sin bin.

“Probably not, but I am not out there in the heat of the moment,” Walters stated.
“Oatesy is no good yeah… that wasn’t a very good incident to have in our game, the shoulder charge, interesting to see what happens with the NRL.
“It is a tough game, Oatesy was going so good too, had a good start to the year for us and copped a bad whack.”
“I questioned it out on the field, it’s hard, everything is happening at high speed and when you look at the reply obviously it doesn’t look too good,” Reynolds added.
“For us we lose a player for the entire game, a number of weeks, whether 10 minutes is justifiable, I don’t think so.”

Cowboys coach Todd Payten stated he was comfortable with the sin bin, but in addition defended his fullback.
“The sin-binning I’m comfortable with as long as it’s consistent all season long,” Payten stated.
“You look at Scott’s tackle, it happened really quick, he came across the field and Corey changed direction really late.
“Scott was trying to stop a try, he had one foot on the deck and no intent to make collision where he got him but it was certainly an accident, his right arm was getting wrapped around the body and there was separation on his left.
“No intent in the whole thing, the kid was just doing his best to stop a try really quickly.”

Meanwhile, Fox League’s Greg Alexander stated Oates was an “awkward” participant to deal with, particularly solely two metres out from the tryline.
“When you look at it again, what I thought is I wouldn’t like to be tackling Corey Oates two metres out from the tryline,” Alexander stated.
“How do you do that? He’s a very awkward customer and I thought Drinkwater just held his ground and turned his shoulder for impact.
“I guess it is a shoulder charge because he turned sideways, end of story, there was no force in his going forward at Oates, he stood his ground.
“I think it is panic from Drinkwater, originally I think he thinks Oates is going to go for the corner but he just eyeballs him,” Fox League’s Michael Ennis added.
“He goes to brace but his arm isn’t pinned to his body, but the fact of the matter is his shoulder comes in contact with the jaw.
“Drinkwater is going to spend a bit of time on the sidelines.”
