Prosecutors urged a Dutch court docket on Friday to convict Netherlands worldwide Quincy Promes of aggravated assault and sentence him to 2 years imprisonment for allegedly stabbing his nephew within the knee at a celebration.
The 31-year-old Promes, who performs for Russian membership Spartak Moscow, was not in court docket in Amsterdam. He denies the cost.
He had initially been charged with tried homicide, tried manslaughter or aggravated assault. Prosecutors stated in a press release Friday that there was inadequate proof to uphold the tried homicide or tried manslaughter fees. The prosecutors didn’t determine Promes by title, according to Dutch privateness guidelines.
The stabbing allegedly occurred at a household social gathering in a city close to Amsterdam in July 2020.
Prosecutors stated in a press release that Promes, who has performed 50 internationals for the Netherlands and scored eight objectives, was charged after prosecutors who have been tapping his telephone in an unrelated investigation heard him speak in regards to the stabbing.
“It is not entirely clear what the motive for the stabbing may have been, but it may have to do with the theft of jewelry from an aunt,” prosecutors stated.
It was not instantly clear when the court docket would ship its verdict.
