Former Barcelona participant Marcos Alonso Pena, father of the crew’s present full again of the identical identify, has died on the age of 63 after a protracted sickness, the LaLiga membership stated on Thursday.
Alonso, who joined Barca in 1982 from Atletico Madrid, was popularly referred to as “Pichon” and received the Copa del Rey, LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup with the membership, having performed alongside Diego Maradona through the Argentine’s time on the Nou Camp.
“FC Barcelona would like to express its deepest condolences on the death of former Barca player and father of a first-team player Marcos Alonso Pena,” the membership stated in a press release.
“Our condolences to all of his family. Rest in peace,” stated Barca president Joan Laporta who known as a minute’s silence throughout a news convention on Thursday.
Atletico Madrid stated in a press release: “The red and white family is in mourning for the passing of Marcos Alonso Pena. We want to convey our sincere condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.”
Alonso, who received 22 caps, was within the Spain squad once they thrashed Malta 12-1 in 1983 to qualify for Euro 84 in France.
After retiring from taking part in in 1991 he went on to handle Rayo Vallecano, Racing Santander, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Real Valladolid, Malaga and Granada 74.
Son of Marquitos, the Real Madrid nice who received 5 European Cups and 5 LaLiga titles, Alonso inherited his father’s ardour for soccer and handed it on to his personal son Marcos Alonso Mendoza, who joined Barca from Chelsea.
