Chelsea may miss out on signing Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez after refusing to set off the discharge clause in his contract.
The Argentine not too long ago emerged as the highest goal for the Blues and it was claimed that they have been ready to satisfy the €120m buy-out clause.
However, the Blues at the moment are reluctant to pay greater than €90m. This has apparently pulled the plug on the negotiations between the golf equipment.
While Chelsea wish to pay €90m over 4 seasons, Benfica are adamant that Fernandez will not be leaving them except the discharge clause is triggered.
Fernandez has already agreed private phrases with Chelsea, however Benfica are fairly clear that they need all the price paid in a single instalment.
This makes a winter deal virtually not possible for the Blues, contemplating they’re already vulnerable to going through Financial Fair Play sanctions.
Chelsea could now must look elsewhere to bolster their midfield. They may revive their curiosity in signing Ajax star Edson Alvarez.
