NEW DELHI: Former chairman of the choice committee Kris Srikkanth on Tuesday expressed his disappointment over the number of injured KL Rahul for the upcoming Asia Cup.
The BCCI choice committee headed by Ajit Agarkar on Monday introduced the 17-member squad for the event.
Rahul, who recovered from a thigh damage he sustained throughout IPL, not too long ago developed a niggle unrelated to his authentic damage however regardless of that the choice committee included him within the Asia Cup squad.
The niggle makes Rahul a uncertain starter for India’s opening recreation towards Pakistan on September 2.
Questioning the choice coverage, Srikkanth slammed the Agarkar-led panel and harassed that on the truth that injured Rahul should not have been a part of the crew.
“It’s being said that KL Rahul has a niggle. If you have a niggle, don’t pick him in the squad. If a player is not fit during selection, you shouldn’t pick him. That was our policy. On the day of selection, if a player is not fit, don’t select him. If you want to pick him for the World Cup, select him for the World Cup. That’s a different issue. Now they are saying that he might play after a couple of matches and that’s why we have picked Sanju Samson as a travelling reserve. What’s all this,” Srikkanth mentioned in a video on his YouTube channel.
In the choice press convention, Agarkar defined the choice to incorporate Rahul, saying it was essential for 31-year-old to get sufficient recreation time forward of the ODI World Cup in India.
