Earthquakes could cause cracks that propagate rapidly

Thin strips of a clear gel have been discovered to crack impossibly rapidly.
“What we found was a total surprise. This just isn’t supposed to happen,” says Jay Fineberg on the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel who led the staff that noticed the record-breaking cracks. The discovering may enhance our understanding of some earthquakes and the way brittle supplies break.
