A HUNDRED years in the past, scientists had been positive of many truths. The biggest consultants had been sure that the universe had at all times existed and was at all times the scale it’s now. Most biologists had been positive that proteins, not DNA, had been chargeable for heredity. Biochemists believed that, exterior the nucleus, the inside of a human cell contained little greater than busy enzymes – a “biochemical bog” that carried out all of the reactions which can be important to life. These sureties had been all mistaken. Yet scientists reacted to challenges to their accepted truths with dismissal and scepticism.
