Death Valley in California is among the many hottest locations on Earth. In the midst of a heatwave baking massive elements of the US South and Southwest it might have simply set a brand new file for the most popular midnight ever.
Between 12am and 1am on 17 July, the Badwater basin climate station maintained in Death Valley by the US National Weather Service recorded temperatures of 48.9°C (120°F).
