The Australian staff wore black armbands throughout the fourth and ultimate Test towards India within the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy collection on Friday in reminiscence of captain Pat Cummins’ mom, who handed away earlier within the day.

“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends.” Cricket Australia took to Twitter to announce the news of Maria’s passing.
Cummins, who opted out of the third Border-Gavaskar Test, left for Sydney simply hours after Australia’s second Test loss towards India in Delhi to be together with his mom. Steve Smith was introduced because the stand-in captain for the rest of the collection.
Smith led Australia to a nine-wicket win towards India in Indore to safe his staff’s place in World Test Championship (WTC) ultimate, scheduled to be performed at The Oval in June.
