CHICAGO (WLS) — An worldwide flight with tons of of troopers on board made an emergency touchdown at Chicago’s O’Hare airport Monday afternoon.
The troopers have been a part of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat workforce and have been heading from Fort Riley, Kansas to Poland to help NATO troops.
Atlas Air Flight 5Y8380 originated in Topeka, Kansas and was on its solution to Poland when it was diverted to O’Hare.
A spokesperson for Atlas Air, which has a contract with the U.S. army, stated there was “an indication of a potential abnormality in the cargo compartment soon after departure.”
The aircraft landed safely simply earlier than 4 p.m. The Chicago Fire Dept. stated 300 troopers on board deplaned and have been seen climbing onto ready buses with an enormous emergency police and fireplace response.
“As a precautionary measure, Chicago authorities inspected the aircraft upon arrival and determined the aircraft was safe for all passengers to de-plane,” Atlas stated in a written assertion. “Our team is investigating the cause of this incident and will work to safely return the aircraft to service.”
The Chicago Fire Department stated greater than 300 folks have been on board the aircraft.
