Tata Group has bagged the title rights for the inaugural version of the Women’s Premier League, starting in Mumbai on March 4.
“I am delighted to announce the #TataGroup as the title sponsor of the inaugural #WPL. With their support, we’re confident that we can take women’s cricket to the next level,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah tweeted.
Sources within the BCCI confirmed to Sportstar that the Tata Group, which can also be the title sponsor for the boys’s Indian Premier League, has secured the WPL rights for 5 years. The Indian multinational conglomerate had final 12 months changed Vivo because the title sponsor for the IPL.
While the valuation of the deal isn’t clear but, getting the Tata Group on board because the title sponsor is a large deal for the WPL, which can be performed throughout two venues in Mumbai – the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.
After promoting the media rights to Viacom18 for a whopping Rs 951 crore, the BCCI managed to promote 5 groups to prime business teams for Rs 4670 crore.
The auctions for the league, which can have 22 video games for the primary three years, was held in Mumbai earlier this month and it generated a whole lot of consideration from the gamers and the business shops. At Rs 3.40 crore, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was the costliest purchase on the public sale.
