Fencing that was lower on the Dallas Zoo’s clouded leopard habitat Friday – ensuing within the escape of one of many animals – wasn’t the one obvious tampering on the zoo that day, police stated.
“Zoo personnel showed investigators a similar cut found at a habitat that enclosed a breed of monkey known as Langurs,” the Dallas Police Department stated in a news launch.
A clouded leopard named Nova disappeared Friday morning after her enclosure was lower open in what police referred to as “an intentional act,” prompting the zoo to shut.
The leopard was discovered secure Friday evening on the grounds of the zoo, which reopened Saturday. Despite the lower fence, not one of the langurs escaped.
Dallas Police stated the reducing of the 2 enclosures stays beneath investigation. “It is unknown if the two incidents are related,” police stated Saturday.
Clouded leopards are categorized as “vulnerable” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature attributable to habitat loss and poaching.
