Released in 1987 by software program agency Forethought, PowerPoint was the digital successor to overhead projectors, “transforming the labour-intensive process of creating slides”.
The firm launched the software program in 1987, and Microsoft purchased the corporate only a few months later for $14 million.
By 1993, PowerPoint was producing greater than $100 million in gross sales. Microsoft built-in PowerPoint to its suite of Office merchandise, together with Word.
Austin served as PowerPoint’s main developer from 1985 to 1996 when he retired.

After Microsoft acquired Forethought, Austin continued to steer growth of PowerPoint. He retired in 1996.
