South Sydney coach Jason Demetriou believes his aspect is “not far away” from their finest soccer, regardless of an unconvincing win 26-14 win over the Dragons.
The Rabbitohs competed at simply 64% and dedicated 15 errors and must enhance mightedily on that if they’re to problem for a premiership.
However, Demetriou and captain Cam Murray mentioned there have been a number of issues in opposition to them when Fox League’s Jake Duke requested if the Rabbitohs are near their finest footy.

“Not far, not far at all. We are at the end of a really long travel period. We’re in our fourth week in a row on the road so we are going to have some good time at home next week,” Demetriou mentioned.
“We aren’t going to Newcastle to Saturday next week so we are really looking forward to getting some time with our families, and some recovery.”
“We are missing a lot of leaders in our pack but over the next couple of weeks we get some troops back and more consistency through the middle,” Murray mentioned.
The Rabbitohs felt the warmth internally and externally after final week’s loss to the Sharks, which dropped them to eighth on the ladder.
Considering the expectations round this aspect in 2023, it has been an underwhelming season, however yet another win from their final two video games needs to be sufficient to snare a high eight spot.
Demetriou admitted his frustration on the Rabbitohs latest type.
“It’s been a tough week, it’s been a tough week for all of us. Not because of external noise but because we know we aren’t playing as well as we can,” Demetriou mentioned.
“As a coach, that’s what probably frustrates me when the boys don’t play to their potential.”
While the Rabbitohs have been cold and hot in assault, Murray was pleased with the workforce’s defensive efforts, reaching the purpose they’d given themselves.

“For sure (it’s getting back on track). We set a goal of only letting in 14 points or under and we were able to hit that goal and get the win,” the Rabbitohs skipper mentioned.
“There were scrappy moments out there but the most pleasing thing was our ability, for the most part defend our errors. We put ourselves under the pump a lot throughout that game but were able to regroup and turn them away more often than not.
“The pleasing thing was our resilience and defence which I don’t think we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks.”
Murray went onto say the “belief is high in the playing group and organisation” that the Rabbitohs can cope with the Penriths and Brisbanes of the world this season.
“We still have a bit of work to do but we are heading in the right direction and aren’t really too far off,” Murray mentioned.
“Our DNA has always been there, the blueprint has always been there, but we just needed to get some consistency out on the paddock.
The belief is high throughout the whole organisation, we just have to prove it now.”
