The opening pair of captain Rohit Sharma (57 off 44 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (38 off 30 balls) added 98 runs in 11.5 overs in India’s second innings on Sunday, after which the guests reached the 100-run mark in 12.2 overs (74 balls) to interrupt the 22-year-record held by Sri Lanka.
During the Asian Test Championship in 2001, Sri Lanka reached 100 in 13.2 overs (80 balls) towards Bangladesh.
India went on to declare their second innings at 181/2 to set the hosts a goal of 365 to win. Shubman Gill (29*) and Ishan Kishan (52* off 34) have been on the crease when India declared.
Wes Indies have been 76/2 at stumps and might want to rating 289 runs extra on the final day to win and stage the sequence.
Earlier, in reply to India’s first-innings whole of 438, WI have been bowled out for 255.
