NEW DELHI: Young Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw on Saturday mentioned that he cannot bat the way in which Cheteshwar Pujara does and backed his aggressive model of play, declaring he can nevertheless be a little bit smarter.
After a brilliant begin to his profession, Shaw has seen a hunch and has slipped down the India pecking order. But the 23-year-old is assured about his pure ‘aggressive’ recreation and mentioned that he wants to attain runs to earn his place again within the nationwide aspect.
Shaw final appeared for India in a T20I match towards Sri Lanka at Colombo in July 2021.
“Personally, I feel I don’t have to change my game, but a little smarter than what I am. I can’t bat like Pujara sir bats or Pujara sir can’t bat like me.
“So, what I’m making an attempt to do are these issues which have introduced me right here until, for instance, the aggressive batting, I do not like to vary that,” said Shaw after West Zone’s Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone at Alur.
Shaw said he was looking to play as many games as possible at this stage of his career.
The 23-year-old said every run would be very important for him in his endeavour to make a comeback.
“I believe whichever recreation for me proper now could be as essential as something. Even if I’m enjoying Duleep Trophy or my Mumbai recreation, I really feel it is essential for me to deliver out my greatest,” said Shaw.
Ideally, Shaw would have liked to be among big runs in the Duleep Trophy semifinal but he could not convert his 25 and 26 into impactful knocks.
Shaw admitted that the conditions were a bit tough for the batters but laid out a plan to survive and make runs.
“It’s not that you would be able to at all times be good however I attempt to work tougher after these sorts of issues occur (not getting runs). T20 is a little more slashing, however an analogous mindset. Not the same approach as in T20 with me when I’m enjoying purple ball cricket as effectively,” said Shaw.
“What I ought to strive is to play with bowlers, distract them, and power them to offer the ball that you really want and never the ball that they wish to bowl,” he said.
However, Shaw found a ray of hope in his form the previous Ranji season. He had scored 595 runs from six matches for Mumbai at an average of 59.50.
Now, Shaw wants to carry his form in red ball cricket to other formats as well.
“Everything has been going good in purple ball cricket from final 12 months itself after I scored 370 (379 vs Assam). With white ball, particularly the IPL, I really feel all the pieces goes the alternative. You simply have 20 overs to consider batting. I communicate to Sourav (Ganguly) sir, Ricky (Ponting) sir and Praveen (Amre) sir (in Delhi Capitals).
